The 6th XI were looking to bounce back from last weeks hammering at Old Pauline by beating Sinjun Grammarians. They started well, with striker Martin Butterly chasing hard and creating an early 1v1 for himself. However the keeper denied him and a golden opportunity had gone. The home side went ahead with a neat finish inside the area, before doubling the lead with an OG from Aaron Harper - he gave goalkeeper Richard Stanbridge no chance by heading into the top corner.

0-2 down but utterly dominant, Dorkinans began to fight back but found the way to goal blocked by Sinjun bodies throwing themselves in front of the shots. Efforts that got past the defenders were confronted with a keeper in good form. One such effort was a superb volley from Dean Knowles at close range that was turned away for a corner. Harper volleyed wide from a corner, Butterly saw a free kick go high, Hawkey had a shot blocked (possibly by an arm) and another Harper effort was thwarted.

On the stroke of half time, the breakthrough came as Josh Hawkey swiveled inside the box to smash home a half volley. GAME ON!

The 2nd half was slightly more even but again shots rained in on the Sinjun goal with a similar tale to tell from the first half. Chris Bedford found a way through however, tucking home from inside the box. Bedford almost doubled his tally with a ferocious shot from an angle.

Ultimately though, a simple long ball and a missed header undid all the work to get level. 2-3 and chasing the game again. A change in shape lead to an all out attack mindset for the 6th team, desperately looking for a 2nd equaliser. But this left space for the home side to counter and they sealed the win with a 2nd OG, this time from Bedford. Again he gave the keeper no chance, sliding the ball into the bottom corner.

Despite the 4-2 loss, Dorkinians were excellent throughout - with Smithy and Josh Miller bossing the midfield in the first half. A bad result but an encouraging performance with Reigate away next weekend.
