Saturday saw the 4th XI take on Shene Old Grammarians 3rd XI in the LOB Minor South Cup.

Having come across SOGs 2nd XI in the league, ODs were not under the illusion that the match against a team from the division below was going to be a stroll in the park.

A frenetic opening from both sides saw a lot of ping-pong football, before finally settling down to some good football all-round. A pacy forward line asked the Dorkinian defence many questions in the first half, and it wasn't long before that pace delivered the first goal. On another day, the penalty wouldn't have been given as the SOGs winger was already on his way down before Clemson's challenge. Briggs dived the right way but to no avail, as the outstretched arm could not reach the accurate penalty.

Dorkinian's finishing at the other end was disappointing, as the yellow and greens crafted half a dozen chances without getting one on target. This would come back to haunt the boys, as SOGs doubled their lead after a clumsy challenge led to a free kick which wasn't dealt with by the away defence and the SOGs number 9 buried a half volley past the helpless Briggs.

The second half started, with a change in formation from Dorkinians, as they looked to take it to SOGs and narrow the 2-0 deficit.

Unfortunately, it wasn't to be, as SOGs caused trouble at set pieces and it wasn't long before SOGs made it 3-0, as Briggs was unable to deal with an inswinging corner fully, and the rebound fell straight to their forward who smashed it home.

Shene's 4th goal was yet another well struck effort and put the nail in the coffin for Dorkinian's cup dreams.

A 4-0 was probably a bit harsh on the yellow and greens, but one lesson they will have taken from this fixture is that they must look to hit the target more often if they are to want to dominate matches.
