Defeat in SAL Senior Cup Semi-Final

Dorkinian 1st XI fell to a disappointing 4-2 defeat in the semi-final of the Southern Amateur League Senior Cup away to Hammersmith FC. Dorkinians struggled to get going in the first half, and despite a couple of good patterns of play, the home side had the best of the game. It was Hammersmith who took the lead, with an excellent long range strike on 35 minutes, and some lacklustre defending saw a further goal on the stroke of half-time.

Coming into the second half two goals down, Dorkinians remained positive about their chances of getting back into the game. A long period of pressure finally told, as a long ball found its way to centre-forward and eventual man-of-the-match, Ally Wise. A strong run past the defender saw his effort well saved, but substitute Louis Rosher was on hand to fire in the rebound: a third goal in as many appearances.

The metaphorical kitchen sink was thrown by Dorkinians, but a stray pass in their defensive third was capitalised on by the Hammersmith winger, who fired an excellent finish into the net. Showing excellent resilience, Dorkinians didn't give up. A free-kick in the wide area was turned onto the cross-bar by Andy Sears-Black, with Jack Wisbey in the right place at the right time to bundle the ball over the line.

As the game tipped into added time, the final blow was struck. A long goal kick caused havoc for the Dorkinians defence, and whilst adamant that the ball did not cross the line, the officials waved for the goal, a real sucker punch and confirmation of defeat.

Despite defensive errors costing the side, the squad were buoyed by their mentality - twice pushing from behind, and overcoming adverse conditions to stay in the game. Hammersmith were worthy winners, and good luck to them in the final. All attention now turns to Wednesday night and the semi-final of the Surrey Premier Cup at Meadowbank Stadium against Sheerwater.
