Dorkinians fell to a 2–0 defeat against the Honourable Artillery Company in the quarter final of the Amateur FA Senior Cup.
HAC came out of the blocks quickly in the first half, with their intent clear to see. Dorkinians were tested, but their organised back line and lively midfield helped ensure that after the first fifteen they began to grow into the game. Chances were limited at both ends, with the best of chances coming from set piece opportunities.
After the break, however, it was HAC who pounced in the final third to score two unanswered goals. The opener arrived with a smart finish from a tight angle from the opposition number nine. Dorkinians thought they might have closed down the chance with some last ditch recovery defending but HAC found a way through. Pushing for a response and an equaliser, Dorkinians committed numbers forward but were caught out again, and an interception led to a smart clinical finish to punish Dorkinians and ultimately seal the result. Good luck to HAC, who deserved the result on the day, in the next round of the competition.
Despite this setback after a rich run of form, there were positives to take from periods of the performance. Dorkinians fortunately have an immediate opportunity to bounce back as they face HAC this time in the League next Saturday.
Two highlights stick out worthy of mention, first being a brilliant spectator atmosphere yet again down the Lane with over 60 fans in attendance. And secondly a huge boost for the squad to have talisman Craig Kingswell back in competitive football action for the fist time in 15 months following a leg break.
