A third game in seven days capped off a memorable week of fixtures for the first team, as they came from behind to beat an in-form NUFC Oilers team.
A heavy pitch compounded what was already a tired squad as Dorkinians struggled to get themselves into the game in the early exchanges. Oilers to their credit started quickly, mounting a series of dangerous attacks and proving a threat from set pieces. Despite being able to negate lots of the pressure, Oilers took the lead with a well taken finish from outside of the box. Dorkinians had their own chances to level the game, but couldn’t quite squeeze home an equaliser despite good efforts from both Toby Pegge and Cai La-Trobe Roberts.
Following the half-time interval the game flipped completely on its head, as Dorkinians took the ascendancy. Things began to click and across the pitch the side seemed to wake up from their first-half lull, with the majority of the football now being played in the final third of the opposition. La-Trobe Roberts began to link up play more freely with wingers Sam Rowley and Phil Robinson, while the imperious midfield duo of Andy Sears-Black and Tan King begun to win the battle in the middle of the park.
Following sustained pressure on the Oilers goal from set pieces, Dorkinians were able to earn a penalty via a handball that was dutifully dispatched by Phil Robinson despite the best efforts of the Oilers captain to disrupt. Shortly after, another uncleared corner turned into a goal as a comical melee of players presented Robinson the opportunity to poke home his and Dorkinians second.
Dorkinians dominance continued throughout the remainder of the second half, with a disallowed goal and strong penalty shout waved away. Oilers threatened on the counter, but reliable defensive work from the Dorkinians unit helped ensure the three points.
