Dorkinians First Team secured their spot in the next round of the AFA Senior Cup this weekend with a victory over Wandsworth Borough.
The first half proved quite an even affair, with Wandsworth themselves missing the chance to go one up early after a harsh penalty, given for handball in the first minute, wasn’t converted. Almost immediately Dorknians punished the mistake, with a trademark swept home finish from Andy Sears-Black allowing them to take the lead following a Tan King flick-on. Following this neither side were able to really settle and dictate the play, as both teams resorted to more direct strategies that created a very frantic feel to the game. Half-time therefore was welcomed, giving the Dorkinians side time to reflect and adjust.
Heading out for the second half Dorkinians now had the wind behind them, and alongside a far calmer approach their dominance shone through. Five unanswered second half goals followed, involving a range of players and some beautiful progressive football. Cai La-Trobe Roberts doubled the lead initially, getting the better of the last defender following a Charlie Woodman through ball before calmly slotting his finish past the ensuing goalkeeper. Sam Rowley followed next to make it three, with a right-footed volley from an uncleared cross. Young substitute Ally Wise slipped his finish home from a tight angle after being put through by the aforementioned La-Trobe Roberts to then make it four. In the dying embers of the game, both Josh Riccio and Sears-Black added a goal apiece, the latter of which via an emphatic strike that capped off a great team move and resounding second half team performance.
