Old Hamptonians 2 v 4 Dorkinian 1st XI
10/05/2025
The curtain fell on the 2024/25 season this weekend for the 1st team with an entertaining 4-2 away victory over Old Hamptonians.
Hamps beautiful playing surface suited Dorkinians who were able to weave threads of patient build-up play. It was however Hamps who took the lead against the run of play, after an excellent freekick from out wide was guided home by an unmarked Hamps defender to punish the sleeping Dorks markers.
Dorks reacted well, unfazed and returning to their game plan. Hamps remained threatening on the break with dangerous fast wingers and classy ball playing midfielders. A string of Dorks chances went begging before stalwart Charlie Woodman slipped home a smart finish to restore parity before half-time.
This was a vital time to score to give Dorks the belief they needed going into the second period, but it was a tactical roll of the dice from both sides that proved to be the difference.
The youngest member of the Dorks squad Oli Scovell joined the fray to lead the line, while Hamps weakened their shape by switching the positioning of a key player. Scovell wreaked havoc, drifting into key pockets of space between the lines, linking up play to give Dorkinians sustained pressure higher up the field. This eventually told, with the always imperious Phil Robinson almost scoring the goal of the season. After beating four defenders, a ferocious strike crashed off the underside of the bar, before being turned home by a smart Archie Mansfield finish under pressure. Soon after the third followed when a second phase cross beautifully weighted and placed by Jonny Walton, was guided home by George Warne.
After his tireless work rate all game, Oli Goddard joined the scoresheet, rounding the keeper to slot home the fourth. Hamps added a consolation late on, but it was truthfully a dominating performance from Dorkinians who can proudly end their season on a high with second place all but secured.
