Dorkinians held there bi-annual Golf Day on Good Friday at Dorking Golf Club, with 24 players ranging from 6 to 36 handicaps taking part. The weather was good and the 6 x 4 balls plotted their way around a hilly 18 holes that would test the stamina of many.
The first prize up for grabs was nearest the pin in two shots on the 5th hole, where ex-chairman and accurate lefty, Bully, took the spoils with a drive and wedge to within 5 feet. Up next was longest drive on the 9th where a huge hit from Chris Bark looked to be the winner, only for the course referee to find out it was his provisional. Up step 'Big' Chris Stone to out blast everyone, but was it from the correct tee? As he'd stepped in last minute the marker decided to let him have his prize, on the proviso he gets a colour blind test
Nearest the pin at the 13th was won by the last group on the course with a precise dart like wedge to the back of the green, hitting the back stop and spinning to within 4 feet of the pin, great shot from Slado! The final two awards were the best par 3 score and best overall stableford score, both won by the returning Aaron Oakley, who proved not playing golf for 6 months can actually improve your game!
A big thank you to Dorking Golf Club for hosting our event.
